Applications for two college scholarships offered by The Jockey Club totaling $21,000 are now open. The pair of scholarships will be awarded for the academic year beginning in the fall of 2020.
First awarded in 2017, The Jockey Club Scholarship offers $7,500 per semester to a student pursuing a bachelor's or higher degree at any university and has demonstrated an interest in a career in the Thoroughbred racing industry.
Criteria to be considered for The Jockey Club Scholarship include career aspirations, activities involving the equine or Thoroughbred industry and high academic achievement.
The Jockey Club Scholarship complements The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship, created in 2007 and awarded to a student of the University of Arizona Racetrack Industry Program (RTIP). The $6,000 scholarship is based on academic achievement, a proposed career path in the Thoroughbred racing industry, and previous industry involvement.
The deadline for both applications is March 31, 2020.
“The Jockey Club is proud to offer these scholarships in an effort to support young individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in the horse racing industry,” said James L. Gagliano, president and chief operating officer, The Jockey Club.
